No and yes. The State of Michigan does not require a prescription to receive physical therapy for up to 10 visits or 21 days (whichever comes first). However, most insurance providers do require a referral as a condition for payment. A prescription is required for occupational or speech therapy services.
No referral is required to participate in aquatic classes, however, we recommend consultation with a licensed healthcare provider prior to starting a new exercise program.
We participate with most major health insurance providers including Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network, and Priority Health. We recommend that you contact your health insurance provider before starting therapy to understand your coverage for therapy services. Health insurance typically does not cover aquatic classes or aftercare.
Your therapist will spend time asking questions and listening to your reason for coming for therapy. Your therapist will review your medical history and guide you through a comprehensive assessment. You and your therapist will discuss goals for therapy and with your input will develop a plan of care to meet your goals.
Wear clothing that you are comfortable moving around in. For a lower body condition, it is helpful to have shorts available. For a neck or shoulder condition, clothing that allows access to the shoulder region (such as a tank top) is helpful.
